The Usage Factor is a new, usage-based measure of the impact and quality of journals and other publications based on COUNTER-compliant online usage statistics, which has been developed in a collaboration between publishers, librarians and other organizations. A draft Code of Practice that sets the standards and protocols for the calculation of Usage Factors is now being tested by publishers, and the roll out for full implementation is planned before the end of 2012.
