REVERE Awards Profile: Math Resources that Motivate

Math can be a struggle for many learners, particularly when they think it’s only memorization, worksheets, and information they’ll never use once they’re out of school. Today’s math resources are breaking through these misconceptions by providing experiences that are adaptive, motivating, and tied to real-life numbers and situations. Common Core Support Coach Target: Foundational Mathematics

Triumph Learning

Finalist in Supplemental Resources – Mathematics

After we built our first Common Core instructional program, Common Core Coach, it became clear that students across the country would have a difficult time adjusting to the increased rigor of the new mathematics standards. We envisioned a product that would act as a bridge, bringing students to grade-level understanding. For Common Core Support Coach: Foundational Mathematics, we chose priority standards from each grade, then carefully selected two prerequisite skills for each standard. The prerequisite skills reacquaint students with skills and concepts that are foundational to performing at grade level. After mastering the needed foundational skills, students are able to bridge the gap to grade-level understanding.

ExploreLearning Reflex

ExploreLearning

Finalist in Supplemental Resources – Mathematics and Innovation

Without math fact fluency, students struggle to learn higher mathematics and often start to feel that they're not good at math. Reflex was created to make the process of learning math facts fast and fun for students, and give students success and confidence. Using gamification and an individualized learning experience to teach math facts, Reflex makes learning fun--and addictive--for students.

Performance Tasks

NextLesson

Finalist in Supplemental Resources – Mathematics

The inspiration behind our Performance Tasks originally came from our Co-Founder and CEO, Dion Lim. He was paging through one of his children's textbooks and came across a question about CD sales from fictional Track One Media company. First, he noticed the outdated data - there was no mention of digital downloads or streaming services. Second, he realized the practice questions would be much more engaging if his daughters were analyzing sales from their favorite music artists.  That sparked the idea behind Performance Tasks. NextLesson began to create activities that put students in real world scenarios, where they solve problems using actual data based on topics that they're interested in. We developed lessons using real data, which could be updated quickly, and could easily build out lessons on new interests to always stay current with the times.

Redbird Mathematics

Redbird Advanced Learning

Winner in Supplemental Resources – Mathematics

Redbird Mathematics inspires a life-long love of mathematics and interest in STEM careers by uniquely incorporating digital STEM projects with a rigorous Common Core curriculum. Redbird Mathematics is inspired by the pioneering work of Dr. Patrick Suppes. His research at Stanford University into online, adaptive digital curriculum paved the way for today's personalized learning products. Sadly Dr. Suppes passed away in late 2014, but not before he and Stanford chose Redbird Advanced Learning to carry on his life's work in the form of Redbird Mathematics. We're dedicated to building upon his research legacy and, through continued partnership with Stanford, enabling all students to reach their full potential.

KnowRe

KnowRe

Finalist in Whole Curriculum - Mathematics

KnowRe’s mission is to provide the most personalized and engaging learning experience to students around the world. While innovation may be at the heart of a society’s growth, education lies at the heart of innovation. KnowRe was born from a popular after-school math academy in South Korea that focused on providing a personalized learning experience for each student. As the academy grew in popularity, the limitations of this personalized, assessment-based approach became more and more evident. As instructors, we sought out tools to enhance our ability to educate the growing student body, but eventually came to the realization that such a tool did not exist. KnowRe was created to deliver an engaging, personalized learning environment for students around the world.

Think Through Math

Think Through Math

Finalist in Whole Curriculum - Mathematics

Think Through Math was originally developed to bring together software and online, on-demand teachers to support struggling students in some of the most challenging schools in Pittsburgh. This concept was based on an extensive research study done by the United States Air Force regarding the best way to teach math. For many struggling students, failure at math is a foregone conclusion in their own minds. We wanted to create a program that would use intrinsic and extrinsic motivation aspects to encourage students to persevere in math, and then couple that program with online teachers who could answer questions and correct misconceptions directly from within a lesson.  By following this method, we could ensure that students were able to work within their Zones of Proximal Development.  he motivational elements of the program and the fact that the lessons adapt means the program “meets the student where they are.”

Mathspace

Mathspace

Winner in Whole Curriculum – Mathematics and Golden Lamp winner as the top curriculum resource

We are trying to recreate the experience of a one-on-one tutoring model for every student, giving them the full teacher experience of feedback, hints and videos available at every step. There was just that moment it clicked - we realized that we have something incredible that works and isn't just an idea any more. No other adaptive math product allows students to show all their work, get feedback at each step, and write it all naturally using their finger or stylus into a mobile device. We are thrilled to be recognized by the REVERE Awards as an Australian edtech company entering the US market!
