Anti-Piracy Program
Anti-Piracy Program Overview
The Association of American Publishers considers the protection of intellectual property in all media among its highest priorities. Working closely with member company representatives, U.S. government officials and local authorities overseas, AAP fights intellectual property thieves in eight to ten countries and territories at any given time.In addition to traditional enforcement, AAP members believe that educating the public and government officials about the basis and need for strict enforcement of copyright laws is a chief priority in fighting piracy, and thus the association takes a multi-pronged approach to the fight in each of its active territories. AAP estimates that American publishers lost over 600 million dollars last year due to copyright piracy, and with the internet as a basis for reproduction and transmission, this number will only grow in the years to come. Thus, providing a strong foundation for intellectual property protection and undertaking aggressive action where appropriate are necessary steps for protecting markets from obliteration by those who bear none of the costs and efforts of producing state-of-the-art content.AAP asks citizens to report any sightings of copyright piracy to the Association of American Publishers. Anonymous reports are welcome as necessary.
