Application Deadline a Week Away (1/25) for AAP/UNCF Internship Program
Only a week remains for students to submit their applications for a publishing internship. Following its inaugural program, AAP again collaborated with the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) to help increase the talent, skill set, views, and ideas that contribute to a vibrant publishing industry.
The AAP-UNCF Internship Program Offers paid summer internships at leading publishing and education companies to students from Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs). Internships will cross several functions critical to publishers, including editorial, marketing, publicity, sales and digital engineering. Educational publishers, whose digital learning programs continue to gain traction in classrooms across the world, are especially interested in students with STEM background. Interns will be placed in New York, Washington and Boston.
Juniors or seniors from any of the nations over 100 HBCUs with an interest in pursuing a career in the publishing industry are eligible for an internship. Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0, a record of leadership and community service, and strong writing skills are encouraged to apply online.
Applications this year are on track to match last year’s success, with just around 200 student applications for 10 placements. One intern from the 2016 program received an offer to join Simon & Schuster full time not long after his internship.

Companies participating in the 2017 internship program include Bloomsbury, Cengage Learning, Elsevier, Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins Publishers, Macmillan, McGraw-Hill Education, Penguin Random House, Perseus Books Group, Scholastic, and W.W. Norton.
