The study was developed for the Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Division of the Association of American Publishers (AAP). It was conducted by the Statistical Research Center (SRC) of the American Institute of Physics, and surveyed publishers that were members of the following organizations: AAP's PSP Division, the DC Principles (a group of non-for-profit medical and scientific societies and publishers), the Association of American University Presses (AAUP), the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives (CESSE), and two large commercial publishers that were not affiliated with any of these groups.
