If you have between 0-3 years’ experience in any department of a professional and scholarly publishing organization this event is for you.   Or if you just want to learn more about finance for non-financial professionals to further your career in PSP publishing you should attend.  If you attend the talk in person there will be ample time to network with staff from other publishing organizations.

How will the session be structured?
You will have the opportunity to listen to a senior professional discuss the following:

  • Finance/Accounting Terms & Glossary (i.e. Asset, Liability, Accrual, Profit Margin, etc.)
  • Financial Statement Components (Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, Cash Flow Statement, Statement of Equity) and how they relate to one another
  • Bases of Accounting (Cash, GAAP, Non-Profit / GOVT), primary differences
  • Illustration of differences between Cash and GAAP using a simple example
  • Accounting for Non-Profit Organizations
  • Application of Concepts Using Several Real World Examples
  • Numbers Can Tell Stories, Too – The Trend Towards “Data Visualization” and Several Simple Presentation Tools / Techniques that can Make You (or your team) Look Like a Financial Wizard
  • Trend Charts (Bar/Line charts that show results over time)
  • Bridge Charts (Comparison of one period to another)
  • Scatter Charts (Observe trends and materiality)
  • List of Resources for Learning More About Topics Above
  • Q&A


The afternoon will end with an opportunity to network with your colleagues and speak to the presenter (in person only attendees).
