Publishers of digital content, especially content delivered via a platform, database-driven website, or other technological channels, frequently face the problem that features and functions that are attractive to the customer--often libraries or other institutional purchasers--may or may not be useful to the people who interact with the content: the users. This may involve trade-offs that ultimately might not best serve either. And as pedagogical paradigms start to change, meeting the needs of the user and the institution will require of publishers not only nimble innovation, but also a very clear picture of how user and customer needs both differ and align.
