PSP Upcoming Guest Speakers (Free of Charge):
PSP Books Committee

The PSP Books Committee will be hearing from guest speaker Rick Bowes on accessibility issues at their next meeting on Friday, May 11th from 12:30-1:30pm at the AAP/NY offices.

Digital formats are rapidly becoming the preferred vehicles for delivering intellectual property. E-books are proliferating, and the Internet is the go-to place for all sorts of information — whether accessed online or downloaded. For those living with disabilities, the expanding amount of information that is, in a practical sense, available in digital formats is a two-edged sword. Often the technology presents barriers that prevent them from having the kind of timely access that their non-disabled peers take for granted.

Essentially an “Accessibility 100” for PSP publishers, this presentation will examine the various accessibility drivers at work in the marketplace and then provide time for a free form time for questions and reflections on both were things stand today and where they may be headed from a variety of perspectives.

PSP Journals Committee

The PSP Journals Committee will be hearing from guest speaker Chris Burghardt, Vice President of Product & Market Strategy for Scientific and Scholarly Research (SSR) at Thomson Reuters at their next meeting on Thursday, May 17th from 12:00-1:00pm at the AAP/NY offices.

Mr. Burghardt, will be providing an overview of Thomson Reuters with particular emphasis on the Scientific & Scholarly Research business. The presentation will outline the new Thomson Reuters IP & Science structure which focuses on the innovation lifecycle including primary research, research and development and intellectual property. Thomson Reuters develops a variety of solutions that impact discovery and impact measurement that will be of interest to PSP members. Chris will provide an update on recent product developments at SSR and will share market insights regarding dynamics that are changing how researchers are accessing, sharing, and publishing content.

The guest speaker talks are free of charge but you will need to sign up as space is limited. You can sign up to hear the talk in-person or via webinar. If you or a colleague would like to attend the talk please contact Sara Pinto at spinto@publishers.org.
