AAP Congratulates House Judiciary Committee for Passing Copyright Small Claims Legislation

Washington, DC; September 11, 2019 – The Association of American Publishers (AAP) congratulates the House Judiciary Committee for passing H.R.2426, the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act of 2019 (CASE Act), by voice vote late last night.
“We thank the House Judiciary Committee Members for their leadership in further advancing this important legislation,” said Maria A. Pallante, President and CEO of AAP. “The bill now has tremendous momentum, having passed through both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees without any votes in opposition. We look forward to working closely with Members of both the House and the Senate to ensure the bill’s final passage in both chambers.
“The CASE Act provides a voluntary, affordable and sorely needed avenue of dispute resolution for small claims copyright cases, administered by a government agency that is uniquely qualified to interpret copyright issues.”
AAP thanks all of the sponsors of the CASE Act for their invaluable support in advancing this bill. AAP especially commends the bill’s original sponsors on the House Judiciary Committee, including Representative Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and the Committee’s Chairman, Jerry Nadler (D-NY), and Ranking Member, Doug Collins (R-GA).
