AAP Congratulates the House Science Committee for Passing the Scientific Integrity Act

Washington, DC, October 17, 2019 – The Association of American Publishers (AAP) congratulates the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology for favorably reporting the Scientific Integrity Act (H.R. 1709) out of committee today on a bipartisan basis. The bill provides important safeguards to government scientists’ ability to publish their findings in peer-reviewed professional and scholarly journals.

“We thank Chairwoman Johnson, Ranking Member Lucas, and Congressman Tonko for their tireless work in advancing this important legislation,” commented AAP’s Vice President of Public Policy, Matthew Barblan. “Disseminating results is a key part of the scientific process, and publishers play an essential role in empowering scientists to share their work with their peers and the public. By recognizing the critical role that publication plays in disseminating scientific and technical findings, and by protecting government scientists’ freedom to publish their work, the Scientific Integrity Act takes an important step forward in promoting the advancement of science.”
