Application Deadline for AAP-UNCF Paid Publishing Internships Approaching

Applications from juniors and seniors at HBCUs are due April 13, 2018

Now in its third year, the AAP-UNCF Internship Program is currently accepting applications from African-American students at Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs) interested in paid summer internships at AAP member publishing companies. Interns will work in departmental areas such as editorial, marketing, art, publicity, audio and digital media, production, sales and software and digital engineering. Publishers participating this year include Elsevier (RELX), Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan Publishing, Penguin Random House, Scholastic Corporation and W.W. Norton.

Juniors or seniors from any of the nations over 100 HBCUs with an interest in pursuing a career in the publishing industry are eligible for an internship. Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0, a record of leadership and community service, and strong writing skills are encouraged to apply online.

“We are delighted to once again partner with UNCF on this highly successful program,” said Syreeta Swan, Vice President, Administration. “Our member companies have hosted 20 high performing student interns in the past two years and we look forward to welcoming a new group of emerging leaders interested in exploring the many career paths available in the vibrant publishing industry.”

“UNCF is delighted to continue our partnership with such a forward-thinking organization like the Association of American Publishers. Providing HBCU students exposure to career options where they have been historically underrepresented and giving them the training they need to achieve valuable internship experience is at the core of why UNCF have developed over 35 strategic partnerships for student interns,” said Taliah Givens, Senior Director, UNCF Student Professional Development Programs. “A unique factor of this particular internship opportunity with AAP is that it allows students to showcase their educational development and talent by welcoming applicants from a wide variety of majors and disciplines. So we have an even greater opportunity with AAP to grow our collective impact in building diversity in publishing careers through the AAP/UNCF Internship Program.”

During the program, students will be matched with mentors from the company where they are placed and supplemental housing support will be available as needed. The deadline to apply for these internships is April 13, 2018.
