Comment from Maria A. Pallante, President and CEO, Association of American Publishers on the Confirmation of Kathi Vidal as Under Secretary for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
We congratulate Kathi Vidal on her confirmation as Under Secretary for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office at the Department of Commerce, following U.S. Senate approval on April 5th. With extensive experience as a patent litigator and broad-based knowledge of the IP industries, Ms. Vidal is well positioned to advise the Administration on a variety of domestic and international IP issues — including copyright policy — and to lead the U.S. delegation to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the intergovernmental body responsible for many IP instruments, including the Berne Convention and WIPO Internet Treaties. We look forward to working closely with Ms. Vidal to ensure that U.S. IP industries continue to drive innovation, job creation, and the economy.
