PROSE Awards 2018 Now Accepting Nominations for Outstanding Scholarly Books, Journals and E-Products

Washington, DC; October 11, 2017 – The 2018 PROSE Awards, which recognize the best professional and scholarly books, journals, and e-products, are accepting entries now through Nov. 1. The awards recognize contributions to the arts, humanities, sciences and math, and are presented by the Association of American Publishers (AAP) Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division.

The PROSE Awards have been judged by peer publishers, librarians, and medical professionals since 1976 and are widely recognized as the premier professional and scholarly awards program in the U.S.

This year’s awards will have 45 book subject categories, six electronic product categories and – new for 2018 – seven awards for new and innovative journals. Five “best of” awards for excellence will be chosen from among the winners of the books, reference works, eProducts and journals subject categories. Within the five, one will win the industry’s most coveted prize – the R.R. Hawkins Award. The 2018 categories include:

Award Categories in Humanities

Art Exhibitions, Art History and Criticism, Biography and Autobiography, Biological Anthropology, Archeology and Ancient History, Classics, European and World History, Language and Linguistics, Literature, Media and Cultural Studies, Music and the Performing Arts, Outstanding Scholarly Work by a Trade Publisher, Philosophy, Textbook/Humanities, Theology and Religious Studies, and U.S. History

Award Categories in Social Sciences:

Architecture and Urban Planning, Business, Finance and Management, Cultural Anthropology and Sociology, Economics, Education Practice, Education Theory, Government and Politics, Law and Legal Studies, Psychology, and Textbook/Social Sciences

Award Categories in Biological and Life Sciences:

Publishers who are members of AAP or Association of American University Presses (AAUP) are encouraged to submit for a PROSE Award their outstanding works that inspire, transform and educate. There is no maximum limit to submissions per publisher in any category. Winners will be announced during the awards luncheon ceremony on Feb. 8, held during the 2018 PSP Annual Conference in Washington, DC.
