Publishers Congratulate Karyn Temple as 13th Register of Copyrights

The Association of American Publishers (AAP) welcomes the news that current Acting Register of Copyrights Karyn Temple has been formally named to head the U.S. Copyright Office as Register of Copyrights.
Having worked with Ms. Temple as Acting Register and in her prior role as Associate Register for Policy and International Affairs, AAP appreciates both her experience and expertise in administering the duties of the Copyright Office.
“We congratulate Register Temple on the honor of this appointment and her well-established commitment to public service,” said Maria A. Pallante, AAP’s President and CEO. “She is leading at a time of unprecedented transactional demand in the global copyright marketplace and during a greater-than-ever-need for an institution that both reflects and supports the cultural and economic value of creative works.”
AAP notes that the copyright law encourages and facilitates extraordinary contributions to culture, education, and the economy, and has served the Nation and world extremely well. Strong leadership at the helm of the Copyright Office is not only essential to meeting the needs of copyright owners and users in the digital age, but also to inform and implement public modernization objectives in collaboration with a diverse stakeholder community.
“Ms. Temple has demonstrated that she understands the urgency and complexity of ongoing efforts to modernize the antiquated information technology infrastructure that the Copyright Office has had to share with the Library,” said Allan Adler, AAP’s Executive Vice-President and General Counsel. “We believe she has demonstrated the character, competence and political sensitivities to lead the Copyright Office at this critical time.”
