Senator Amy Klobuchar To Receive AAP’S 2021 Award for Distinguished Public Service

Maria A. Pallante, President and CEO of the Association of American Publishers (AAP), today announced that Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will receive AAP’s 2021 Award for Distinguished Public Service, which honors individuals who have made important contributions to the public good by advancing laws or policies that respect the value, creation, and publication of original works of authorship.

Senator Klobuchar is a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights.  Her new book, Antitrust: Taking on Monopoly Power from the Gilded Age to the Digital Age (April 2021, Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group) was released on April 27, 2021.  She is also the author of The Senator Next Door: A Memoir From the Heartland (August 2015, Henry Holt and Co.).

“We are proud to recognize Senator Klobuchar because she leads every day on issues that are profoundly important to publishers, authors, and the democracy that we serve,” commented Ms. Pallante.  “In particular, we applaud her determination to address one of the most complex and urgent problems of our time: the unprecedented power and dominant conduct of giant technology platforms over businesses and society.  As the Senator has stated, our laws need to be ‘as sophisticated as the companies that now occupy our economy.’”

Senator Klobuchar will accept the award virtually during AAP’s annual general meeting on June 2, 2021.  She will be bookmarked by keynote speakers Don Lemon, host of CNN Tonight with Don Lemon and author of This Is the Fire: What I Say to My Friends About Racism (March 2021, Little, Brown and Company), and Brad Stone, Senior Executive Editor of Global Technology at Bloomberg News and the author of Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire (May 2021, Simon & Schuster), as well as The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon (October 2013, Little, Brown and Company).
